Das Artifacts Trio vereint drei herausragende Persönlichkeiten der Chicagoer Jazz-Szene. International gelobt und mit Preisen geehrt, kombinieren sie in ihrem energetischen Zusammenspiel traditionelle Klänge mit moderner Ästhetik und Innovation.
Die Cellistin Tomeka Reid, die das Cello im Jazz zu neuer Geltung gebracht hat, war mit einem Solo bereits 2019 am unerhört! zu Gast. 2023 kam sie mit der Pianistin Myra Melford, im vergangenen Jahr als Teil des virtuosen Craig Taborn Trios. Immer war es ein Erlebnis.
Erstmals bei uns ist Nicole Mitchell, vom Magazin Downbeat und der amerikanischen Jazz Journalists Association mehrmals zur «Top-Flötistin des Jahres» gekürt. Nebenher war sie die erste Präsidentin der Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, der AACM in Chicago, die seit ihrer Gründung 1965 afroamerikanische Musik und Kultur fördert.
Mike Reed, geboren in Bielefeld/Germany, trommelt von Hard Bop bis Free; eine seiner Platten trägt den schönen Titel It Only Happens at Night.
Am Artifacts-Trio bewundert der britische Journalist John Sharpe die Fülle “unwiderstehlicher Beats, eingängiger Melodien, raffinierter Arrangements”.  Nicole Mitchell beschreibt das Trio als „ eine Band, die Spass macht” – weil die drei schon seit vielen Jahren enge Freunde sind.

The Artifacts Trio brings together three outstanding figures from the Chicago jazz scene. Internationally acclaimed and honored with awards, they combine traditional sounds with modern aesthetics and innovation in their energetic ensemble playing.
Cellist Tomeka Reid, who has brought the cello to new prominence in jazz, appeared as a soloist at unerhört! back in 2019. In 2023, she performed with pianist Myra Melford, and last year as part of the virtuoso Craig Taborn Trio. It has always been a memorable experience.
Making her debut with us is Nicole Mitchell, who has been named “Top Flutist of the Year” multiple times by Downbeat magazine and the American Jazz Journalists Association. She also served as the first president of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in Chicago, which has promoted African American music and culture since its founding in 1965.
Mike Reed, born in Bielefeld, Germany, plays drums across genres from hard bop to free jazz; one of his albums bears the beautiful title „It Only Happens at Night“.
